When you rent Western Washington University student housing, you’re not going to be spending all your time in your apartment. When you’re not in a class, you might be checking out bars and restaurants or shopping for groceries with your roommates. For this reason, it’s important to explore the neighborhood before you sign a lease on a student apartment. The area you’re in can make or break your college experience.

How Can You Explore the Area Before Renting an Apartment?

Before moving in, drive around a little and see what the area around the apartment is like. If you’re an extrovert, you might want to live in an area that’s close to all the hottest bars, restaurants, and tourist spots. If you’re introverted, you might prefer a location that’s a little quieter but still close to grocery stores, doctor’s offices, and other necessities. You won’t know exactly what the neighborhood is like before you move in, but you can get an idea of what to expect.

You can also try talking to people who live in the area. If you have friends or family members who went to the same university, ask them about the student life and what they did for fun. You can even explore the area yourself and hit up a few bars and social areas. Get a feel for the community and decide if it matches your personal beliefs and interests.
